Overhead Lifting Equipment, Hoists, Monorails & Winches

Handling materials overhead can increase productivity, enhance safety, improve ergonomics and maximize available floor space. There are many types of overhead materials handling equipment used to lift and move product safely and efficiently across a manufacturing or warehousing facility. Overhead cranes enable the movement of product above the floor and the right equipment for the job depends on the process, the product being moved, the task being performed and the desired rate of throughput.

Overhead Lifting Equipment

Overhead cranes are a versatile type of lifting equipment that can be used to lift and move heavy loads in a variety of industries. They consist of a hoist, which is the lifting mechanism, and a runway, which is the structure that supports the hoist. Overhead cranes can be either manually operated or powered.

Types of Overhead Cranes

Monorail
This type of overhead crane is ideal if your operation involves routine/fixed processes like a factory line or processing plant and you require a lifting solution to lift loads and move them forwards/backwards along a beam

Gantry Cranes
A gantry crane is an overhead crane a built atop a gantry, rigidly supported by two or more legs moving in a straight line. The structure is used to straddle an object or workspace and are capable of lifting enormous loads such as shipping containers on the dock terminal or within manufacturing environments lifting heavy parts on the assembly lines.

Jib Cranes
These are a type of overhead lifting device that's often used in a smaller work cell area for repetitive and unique lifting tasks. The boom is the horizontal beam that extends from the support and holds the load. The mast is the vertical beam or pipe steel that supports the boom and allows the system to rotate. The moveable hoist is used to lift, position, and lower a load.

Types of Jib Crane:

  • Wall Mounted,
  • Column Mounted (Pillar)
  • Ceiling Mounted

Bridge Cranes
Typically, of single girder configuration a workstation bridge crane gives the operator the ability to manoeuvre the single girder bridge beam forwards and backwards as well as moving the hoist left and right on the bridge.

Electric hoists
Are a type of hoist that is powered by electricity. Electric hoists are typically used in conjunction with overhead cranes, but they can also be used as standalone lifting devices. Electric hoists offer a number of advantages over manual hoists, including greater lifting capacity and the ability to operate over longer distances.

Chain hoists
Are a type of hoist that uses a chain to lift and move loads. Chain hoists are typically used in conjunction with overhead cranes, but they can also be used as standalone lifting devices. Chain hoists are relatively inexpensive and easy to maintain, making them a popular choice for a variety of lifting applications.

Winches
Are a type of hoist that uses a rope or cable to lift and move loads. Winches are typically used in conjunction with other lifting equipment, such as gantries or jib cranes. Winches offer a number of advantages over other types of hoists, including the ability to lift and move loads over long distances.

Trolleys
Are a type of wheeled platform that is used to move loads along overhead beams or gantries. They are typically powered by electric motors, but they can also be manually operated
