Richard Turfitt, Senior Traffic Commissioner, will address delegates at the Microlise Transport Conference on 18th May 2022, at the Coventry Building Society Arena (formerly the Ricoh Arena) in Coventry.

Mr Turfitt joined the Health and Safety Executive in 1999 and helped establish their Litigation and Enforcement Advisory team and the Health and Safety Lawyers’ Association before his appointment to Traffic Commissioner for the East of England in 2008 and as Senior Traffic Commissioner in 2017.

In his conference address, he will discuss how the Traffic Commissioners are working to keep Great Britain’s roads safe by licensing and regulating the commercial vehicle industry.

The commissioner will also make observations about mental health in drivers, longer semi-trailers and brake testing.

The commissioner said “we will support those we regulate, to comply and grow; making engagement accessible so that operators and drivers are provided with the information they require to manage their licences and meet safety standards. We will also promote and develop a safe road transport industry, which delivers compliance, fair competition and protects the environment.”

The Microlise Transport Conference has established itself as the industry’s premier conference, offering a thought-provoking and engaging programme of speakers, complimented by four workshop areas, an exhibition featuring innovative industry suppliers and the opportunity to network with an audience of over 1,000 delegates.

“Compliance is a key focus for operators, and we are delighted to welcome Richard to the conference,” said Nadeem Raza, CEO at Microlise.

In keeping with the conference theme of technology, innovation and the future of the industry, the event will be hosted this year by technology broadcaster and presenter Spencer Kelly, who fronts the BBC’s flagship technology programme, Click, which attracts viewers from more than 200 countries around the world.

Attracting delegates from both managerial and operational areas across fleet transportation, regardless of fleet size, industry sector or technology usage, the one-day Microlise Transport Conference is free to attend.
