cargo-partner extends portfolio of rail transport services via the Iron Silk Road


Since the start of the year, the international transport and info-logistics provider has introduced a range of new rail transport services from China to Romania, the UK, Slovakia and Sweden, as well as combined sea/rail transport solutions from Japan to Germany and Poland.
The impacts of COVID-19-related transport restrictions have led to capacity shortages in both seafreight and airfreight between China and Europe. As a consequence, rail transport across the Iron Silk Road is gaining increasing popularity as a reliable, cost-efficient and environment-friendly alternative. cargo-partner has been offering rail transport solutions for many years and is continuously expanding its portfolio of both westbound and eastbound services on this route. Since the start of 2021, the logistics provider has launched a range of new FCL and LCL rail transport services from Asia to numerous destinations in Europe.

Shanghai to Bucharest 

In July 2021, cargo-partner introduced a new LCL rail transport solution from Shanghai to Bucharest with weekly departures and door-to-door transit times of around 28 days. The logistics provider has a dedicated rail transport team in Romania and sees great potential on this route. Stefan Krauter, CEO of cargo-partner, states: “With our LCL connection from Shanghai via Xi’an to Bucharest, we consider ourselves a pioneer on this route and can provide a unique transport solution. We are already serving several valued customers in the country and plan to expand this division even further in the future.”

China to the UK 

The same month, cargo-partner’s team in the UK launched a new rail transport solution from China, making use of the hubs in Xi’an and Warsaw. For LCL shipments, cargo-partner offers weekly services from various container freight stations in China, including Shanghai, Ningbo, Shenzhen and Tianjin, to Basildon. This combined rail and road transport solution comes with transit times of around 30-32 days. For FCL shipments, the logistics provider can achieve transit times of around 25 days from the terminal in Xi’an to the port of Immingham using a combination of rail and sea transport.

Ningbo to Dunajska Streda 

Benefiting from the direct rail connection at its iLogistics Center in Dunajska Streda, Slovakia, cargo-partner recently introduced a new LCL service from Ningbo to Dunajska Streda via Xi’an. Transit times amount to approximately 25 days, with regular departures every Sunday. Consolidation and deconsolidation take place in cargo-partner’s own warehouses in Ningbo and Dunajska Streda, minimizing the risk of damages. Thanks to the direct connection between cargo-partner’s Slovakian warehouse and the rail terminal, there is no need for on-carriage by truck, leading to reduced costs and transit times.

Xi’an to Karlshamn 

Earlier this year, cargo-partner expanded its rail transport offering with a new LCL service from Xi’an, China to Karlshamn, Sweden with transit times of 22 to 24 days. Stefan Krauter explains: “This addition to our existing rail transport portfolio in Sweden allows us to offer our customers a reliable alternative to air and sea freight with a low risk of congestions, short lead times and competitive rates. In addition, we can ensure easy customs handling and fast domestic distribution. As the next step, we are currently developing a corresponding eastbound service from Sweden to China.”

Japan to Poland and Germany 

While the majority of cargo-partner’s rail transport solutions connect China to Europe, the logistics provider has complemented its rail service portfolio with a combined sea and rail solution as of this year. cargo-partner now provides weekly FCL and LCL connections by intermodal sea/rail transport from Tokyo, Yokohama, Nagoya, Kobe and Toyama Shinko to Poland and Germany, with further distribution throughout Central and Eastern Europe.

All of cargo-partner’s rail transport solutions come with door-to-door service, including pickup and delivery, customs clearance, warehousing and inventory management as well as a wide range of value added services. In addition to rail transport solutions from Asia to Europe, the logistics provider also offers numerous eastbound connections and organizes block trains via the Iron Silk Road.
