R M Penny, the provider of plant hire, demolition and excavation services across the South West and South Wales, has chosen Teletrac Navman to implement a new fleet management system in a move to drive efficiency and improve productivity for the family business.

Founded more than sixty years ago, R M Penny has a 70-plus fleet of lorries, tippers, and an wide range of plant and demolition equipment. The business chose Teletrac Navman after a seven-way competitive pitch to find its preferred supplier and give the business complete visibility of its fleet.

As a result, the new deal will see R M Penny benefit from a range of solutions through Teletrac Navman’s connected fleet management platform, DIRECTOR. This includes advanced fleet tracking, to provide a comprehensive and dynamic overview of vehicle location and performance. Moving forward, the business will also be able to monitor driver behaviour in granular detail, so safer driving practises can be implemented to reduce risks on the roads.

Teletrac Navman will also install its ConEx monitoring solution, which tracks the movements and actions of individual vehicles during operation, this includes activities like alerting management when a vehicle is active, when a vehicle door has been opened, or if a tipper bucket is engaged.

Scott Hutchins, UK VP Sales at Teletrac Navman, commented: “R M Penny’s success goes to show that if you have the right foundation and willingness to keep updating your practices then you can really achieve positive, industry-wide recognition. We are delighted to help the business evolve to the next stage of fleet management and reap the rewards of adopting a full digital transformation.”

Stuart Mcardle, Transport Manager at R M Penny, added: “As a business we decided to update our current system this financial year, to achieve better productivity, drive efficiency and of course reduce costs – particularly our ever-increasing insurance premiums. Managing our expansive fleet is no mean feat, so we opened up the tender to the best in the industry.

“The overall functionality needed to be easy-to-use and as stress-free as possible to implement. We also needed something that would give us real-time visibility. DIRECTOR did just that. What’s more, it comes with an extensive reporting system that we can adapt to produce more meaningful reports for the business.”
