Staff at Sovereign Transport in Kirkby have scooped a 'UK award for Excellence 2016' from Palletways, Europe's largest and fastest growing express palletised freight network.

Staff beat off competition from more than 100 companies to win the award, which they received at a ceremony in Germany, in recognition of its network pallet volumes, which have grown 52 per cent on last year, along with its service excellence in the UK marketplace.

James Wilson, Palletways Group CEO, Stephen Radcliffe, managing director for Sovereign Transport and Luis Zubialde, chief operating officer for the Palletways Group.

The award win coincides with the company's relocation to a new 3.5 acre site in Kirkby which features a purpose built warehouse to cope with future growth. Stephen Radcliffe, managing director at Sovereign Transport, said: "We're delighted to have won this award which reflects the dedication and hard work of every member of staff at the depot. It's a great staff motivator but the award, combined with our investment in new premises, sends out a strong signal to the marketplace about our capabilities which we believe are unparalleled amongst our competitors."

Barry Byers, network director for Palletways (UK) Ltd, added: "Sovereign Transport's pallet volumes are consistent and continue to grow. They've been a top performer across a range of measures over the past 12 months and this award officially recognises their continuing excellence."

Sovereign Transport has worked in partnership with Palletways for 16 years. It boasts a 30-strong fleet and operates a 'green' haulage policy – its collections and deliveries are carefully planned for the optimisation of load efficiency and the reduction of road miles to help protect the environment.
