Darlington-based haulage company George Allinson Transport has become the latest member of the Palletforce distribution network. It's the first time the family-run business, which will cover selected TS postcodes in Teesside, has joined a pallet network.

The move allows Palletforce, which recently achieved the 25 million pallet milestone at its Staffordshire hub, to further enhance its service across the north-east of England.

Founded in Bishop Auckland in 1955, George Allinson Transport recently invested over £2m on a 71,000 sq ft warehouse in Darlington, and has depots in Liverpool, Cinderford, Doncaster and Cambridgeshire for its 95-strong fleet.

Commercial director Alan Barnfather, who joined the firm in 1992, says that until now the company has always resisted the idea of joining a pallet network.

"We're a family business with traditional values and ethos – but we are also very forward thinking and the industry is changing in the way it operates both in terms of network delivery and technology.

"We've had a number of approaches over the years, but Palletforce were by far the most professional in terms of what they can offer and how they offer it. And of course being a Palletforce member opens up other avenues for our own business, such as markets in Ireland and Europe."

George Allinson Transport is following in the footsteps of Cambridgeshire-based Knowles Transport, who joined Palletforce in 2015 having previously never been a pallet network member.

Director Alex Knowles said: "We were looking to diversify the business, and Palletforce opened us up to a new customer base that we never had before. From a single pallet delivery, through to larger loads and part-loads, Palletforce's distribution system allows for huge quantities of goods to be shipped nationwide and even into Europe, at far more cost-effective rates than conventional courier and distribution methods."

Palletforce chief executive officer Michael Conroy said: "This is a great addition to our membership and we are delighted that a company with such a reputation and history as George Allinson Transport sees their future as part of our network.

"Palletforce is built, and continues to grow, on the quality of our members. This addition further consolidates our position as the number one quality express pallet network."
