The British Council of Shopping Centres (BCSC) has appointed logistics and supply chain specialist, The Logistics Business (TLB), to undertake research into understanding the changing logistics of the retail industry.

BCSC and TLB will be working together to understand future trends in retail logistics with particular consideration of the effect of multi-channel retailing on logistics. The research will also look at stock flow and how it is managed in retail destinations, as well as changes to transport, technology and how this will impact the industry.

Director of The Logistics Business, Rick Ballard commented: "We are delighted to be working alongside BCSC to research the effects of multi-channel retailing on the future development and success of shopping centres.

"The many and rapid changing demands of customers in terms of both the range of options for buying goods and delivery, means the model for successful logistics is ever changing too."

Davinder Jhamat, Head of Research, BCSC added: "In our partnership with TLB we will get a true understanding of how multi-channel retailing will affect the supply chain. With retailers holding less stock in store, it is essential for the future strength of the industry, that we understand effective and sustainable delivery of goods to retail destinations."

The research is due to be completed by the end of the year and will culminate with the report's findings being shared with delegates at a conference to be held in early 2015.
