Logistics experts Palletways have been presented with the Global Freight Innovation Award for New Process for their unique system to automatically scan and photograph every pallet that enters their network.

The Palletways Archway Scanning System (P.A.S.S) uses an array of cameras to take a high definition photo of every consignment handled to improve the traceability and tracking of every individual pallet. With over 30,000 pallets handled by the Palletways Network each day, the ability to track every consignment and guarantee its security and safety is paramount for the business and its customers.

Managing Director of Palletways UK Member Network, Martyn Young, said: "We are very proud of our PASS system. It took just three years from conception to implementation and has had a major impact on our business".

"PASS is responsible for a 23% improvement in pallets handled per shift and has directly resulted in a 6% reduction in the costs per pallet. Most importantly it provides our customers with the knowledge that their parcel will arrive at its destination on time and in the optimal condition, with the ability to track it along the way."

The Global Freight Awards, which recognise the best practice in freight and logistics and seek to improve industry standards, were held at Planit in London and presented by comedian Rufus Hound.

Palletways is Europe's largest and fastest growing express palletised freight network. It consists of 300 members across Europe of which 100 are in the UK. The company's distribution networks are made up of independent transport companies who share each other's resources to deliver small consignments of palletised freight to market faster and more cost effectively than ever before.
