Metal components manufacturer Advanced Engineering Techniques needed a space saving solution for storing large sheets of steel. Previously these had been kept on the factory floor but this took up valuable space and meant a considerable amount of time was spent shifting the packs of steel around in order to reach sheets stored at the back.

Space was at a premium in the busy factory and Advanced Engineering Techniques wanted an efficient and effective storage system that would utilise the floor to ceiling height. They approached specialist industrial racking manufacturer Wickens and asked the team to design, manufacture and install a bespoke solution.

Wickens assessed requirements at the site, taking into account the size of the steel packs and fork lift truck capabilities and coming up with a practical solution tailored to the needs of Advanced Engineering Techniques.

Health and safety was key when fitting the racking, as production areas and access gangways in the busy factory needed to be kept clear. Wickens fully project managed the entire design and installation process, ensuring it ran smoothly and was completed on time with minimal impact on production at the site.

David Birch, managing director of Advanced Engineering Techniques, comments: "I felt confident in Wickens' ability to design a practical solution to fit within our available space and the fact they also manufactured and installed the system simplified the whole process, enabling us to get the new system up and running quickly.

"Having a dedicated storage area has made a real difference, making it quicker and easier to select the packs we need and meaning the floor space is now clear of steel sheeting."
