Two cantilever racking installations from Pro-Dek Storage Systems have allowed one of Europes largest manufacturers of kitchen and bedroom carcase and fascia panels to stock raw materials with maximum efficiency and minimum damage in a new factory in West Yorkshire.

The new 175,000m manufacturing and distribution facility has been built by Decorative Panels Components at a cost of 10 million in order to meet demand from the UK and the Continent.  Following the investment in advanced production and packing machinery as well as storage equipment, output capacity is now 600,000 panels a week.

Pro-Dek has designed and installed the racking in two sections with capacity for over 500 tonnes of chipboard and thin-board.  The racking allows every pack to have a separate location and bar-code for efficient handling and traceability and also minimises the number of times material is handled, to reduce damage and waste.

For both types of board Pro-Dek has installed its heavy-duty Pro-Bolt cantilever racking, which allows arm positions to be adjusted in 150mm increments.  Arms have a 1 positive cant and a bull-nose end to reduce the potential for product to be damaged during handling.

The chipboard racking is single-sided, 6650mm high, with six arm levels.  Each arm is rated to carry 900kg.  The thin-board racking is six metres high and has a mix of arm levels to suit different pack sizes.  Some of the single-sided racking has been designed to be converted to double-sided if DPC need more capacity in the future.

The racking project was carefully programmed by Pro-Dek to reduce installation time while co-ordinating with other aspects of the overall investment.
