CEVA Logistics, the global supply chain management company, has announced that the company has signed a five-and-a-half-year contract to manage Crown Paints' trade warehouse operation, nationwide distribution of retail and trade product and inter-site and bulk transport movements.

CEVA has worked with Crown Paints for 26 years and this latest extension to the partnership, worth 50 million, includes the opening of a 1.5 million Crown Paints trade warehouse operation in Hull where over 70 jobs will be created by CEVA.

New employees will help manage the warehouse operation and deliver paint products each week to trade customers across the UK and Ireland. The warehouse will also be used as an export base to deliver product to export customers around the world.

In addition to driving operational efficiencies, both companies will work towards reducing the operation's carbon footprint through integrated transport planning, improved vehicle utilization and the use of modern, efficient resources throughout, including eco-efficient lighting in the warehouse. The vehicle fleet is Euro 5 compliant, featuring automatic gearboxes, telematics and aerodynamics.

Joe Devitt, Managing Director at Crown Paints, said: "Through this new agreement we will reduce CO emissions, which will help us achieve the challenging environmental targets we have set ourselves.

We're really excited about this new development, it's great news for Hull and it underlines our commitment to the area. CEVA's extensive experience in the Industrial sector and ability to provide innovative and imaginative solutions was fundamental in our renewal of this contract."

The logistics hub was officially opened on Friday 22 June, 2012 at a ceremony being attended by dignitaries including Councillor Danny Brown, Lord Mayor of Kingston upon Hull and Admiral of the Humber, and Hull North MP Diana Johnson.

Andy Fitt, Senior Vice President of Contract Logistics for CEVA in the UK said: "We will continue to work very closely with Crown, with CEVA management involved in factory production meetings to make sure the whole operation runs as efficiently as possible. We are also running a paint mixing facility to fulfil bespoke orders.

"We are delighted to be appointed as Crown's strategic supply chain partner and further extend our scope of services.  The successful operation of the new warehouse operation will be achieved through our robust quality systems and a joint commitment to continuous improvement."
