Lichfield-based Palletways Group, the European express palletised freight network, has recruited Steve Ward into a new position of Network Development Manager.

Steve brings 15 years' experience within the logistics industry, working for Great Bear Distribution and Weaver Pallet Express before it was bought by UK Pallets, a division of the UK Mail Group, in 2005. Steve continued to work for UK Pallets until December 2011 when he was appointed by Palletways.

Martyn Young, Palletways managing director, said: "Steve brings a pedigree of specialist logistics knowledge to Palletways. We're pleased to have him on board and I look forward to working with him and using his knowledge to strengthen our business."

About his appointment, Steve Ward said: "Having worked in logistics, and being based locally, I've always been aware of Palletways and have admired them as a business. I'm delighted to now be working here. I have a great opportunity to establish and grow this new role to benefit the network's members, as well as providing extra support to my colleagues."

The Palletways Group is made up of 300 depots and ten hub operations, through which it provides collection and distribution services across 11 European countries, including the UK. The company's distribution networks are made up of independent transport companies who share resources to deliver small consignments of palletised freight to market faster and more cost effectively.
