Norbert Dentressangle has been appointed by Needlefresh Direct Limited to manage the import and direct distribution of real Christmas trees from Belgium to UK retail outlets within four days of harvesting.

Established in 1996, Needlefresh has developed one of the most efficient systems for providing the best quality fresh Christmas trees to retail customers. The company supplies several varieties of tree, including traditional Norwegian Spruces and a range of Needlefast Firs. Each tree has a unique number to enable traceability and guarantee quality.

As well as using its international supply chain network to manage the inbound transportation of trees from Belgium, Norbert Dentressangle is also making deliveries to customers across the UK from growers' sites in Hereford and Yattendon in Basingstoke.

The seamless integration of Norbert Dentressangle's IT solution with Needlefresh's in-house system ensures a smooth flow of information to deliver a flexible and reliable UK distribution operation.

The contract, which started in late November, will see Norbert Dentressangle transport over 200 trailer loads of trees for the key festive period. In the UK, deliveries are made directly to supermarkets, DIY stores and leading independent outlets, as well as garden centres, including Dobbies Garden World.

Christopher Hood, Director, at Needlefresh, said: "Obviously this is a seasonal business with very tight time scales so we need a transport provider that we could trust to react quickly and provide a reliable solution. Whilst efficiency is imperative, Norbert Dentressangle is also ensuring careful loading and handling of the trees so that they reach our customers in excellent pre-sale condition."
