TGW to equip Simon Hegele's new logistics centre

TGW Logistics Group is to install automated mini-load storage and retrieval (ASR) systems at logistics service provider Simon Hegele's new distribution centre near Frankfurt, Germany.

When completed, the 50,000 sq m centre will be the primary location for Simon Hegele's spare parts logistics service.

The automated mini-load operation incorporates five aisles of warehousing (which can be increased to nine aisles if required) and a pick-up and delivery area with ten goods receiving stations, eight picking stations and four multifunctional workstations that can be used to perform value added services.

TGW's system includes the company's Mustang Evolution mini-load ASR machines and Twister load handling devices.

The mini-load machines have rigid masts and can reach a height of 12 metres. Extremely energy efficient and with a lightweight construction and improved centre of gravity, the Mustang can also achieve maximum speeds without a top drive, further reducing the power requirement and operating cost.

TGW specified its Twister load handling devices to facilitate the double-deep handling and retrieval of cartons and totes at high speeds.

All the automated handling and storage equipment will be controlled using TGW's CI_LOG warehouse management software. The system will also organise and allocate storage locations by interfacing with Simon Hegele's own software for added functionality and improved operational efficiencies.

"We demonstrated to Simon Hegele that we have the knowledge, expertise and resources to manage an installation of this size," said Phil Steeds, Sales Director at TGW.

"It was an essential requirement for them that the handling and storage systems should be combined and TGW has the technical ability to integrate both onto one manageable platform."
