Manoeuvrable like no other

The handling of long goods is almost always a challenge, particularly in production operations like a joinery.

The mid-sized joinery, Gerber-Vogt AG, has a product that is relatively difficult to handle: its long wooden slats. In cooperation with the customer, Stcklin was able to find a possibility for moving this material quickly, damage free, and above all, efficiently from A to B.

A CLEVER SPECIAL SOLUTION IS REQUIRED

At Gerber-Vogt AG the raw material is delivered on pallets, as packets or in boxes with a length of 4 m and stored in cantilever shelves until further use.

In companies with many repetitive storage movements, the use of a side loader or an indoor crane would be advisable, but here a different solution had to be found because of the space conditions.

The available space at our customers premises is not even enough for stacking with a 90 turn. A complicating factor for finding the solution was that the products must be brought by a freight elevator 2 6 m in size to different floors. The criteria of a maximum vehicle length of less than 2 m also had to be taken into account in developing the new vehicle.

A WHOLE ARISES FROM DIFFERENT PARTS

Stcklin is known for producing special equipment, which mostly relies on using base components.

In this case as well, we were able to turn to components from an existing model series, the model EHF straddle truck. This machine is equipped with a 2.2 kW AC centre drive, which is steered by an electrical steering system likewise driven by AC.

A Stcklin four-way tiller-operated stacker, model EHF-4 1600 C44 was selected as the solution.

In normal operation the machine is operated as usual by the central tiller. To be able to operate the machine in two directions at right angles to one another, the drive wheel and the load rollers must be turned by 90. The drive wheel is turned directly via the tiller. The load rollers, however, are turned by 90 using hydraulic cylinders that can be controlled from the tiller head. Now the machine can move laterally along the shelf, and of course slight course corrections can be made by way of the tiller position.

Upon arrival at the storage site, the drive position is again assumed by turning the wheels, and the cantilever shelf can be filled. To avoid incorrect positioning, the respective position of the load rollers is displayed by coloured diodes on the chassis.

EVERYTHING THAT PHYSICS ALLOWS

Depending on the weight and the centre of gravity of the load, or also with additional add-on equipment such as tine-moving devices, the optimal machine for the customer can be built from this basic machine with different types of masts

A special machine with a special appearance, in which the best ingredients from many standard models, components such as drive unit, steering, controller, hydraulics, etc. are used.
