DHL Supply Chain has agreed a partnership deal with supply chain solutions provider DEX to provide end-to-end technical services for service parts, finished goods and parts management to new and existing customers across all sectors. DHL manages the supply chains for 200+ technology, electronics and engineering companies and through this partnership will offer a comprehensive product configuration, screening, repair and returns process.

The operation will utilise the DEX IT system, a suite of specialised reverse logistics software modules that will give DHL customers full visibility of their operation, including  inventory statistics, engineering data, failure analysis and parts consumption data within the returns and repairs process.

DEX will provide accredited repairs and re-engineering capabilities from its unique DEX pod workshop environment embedded in DHL facilities at Milton Keynes. Services will consist of configuration, screening, board level repair, parts harvesting and refurbishing, and pre-delivery inspection and verification activities.

The joint DHL/DEX solution will reduce the turnaround time of services by up to five days, eliminating transport legs by performing technical services in the DHL facility rather than using a remote third party repairer; thereby reducing transport costs & CO2 emissions for DHL customers.

Kevin Savage, Operations Director, Engineering Support Services, DHL Supply Chain, comments: "Technology plays such a crucial part to working life that if a product fails, customers require a swift turnaround for repair and return, with minimal disruption.

This extension of our current service portfolio will give our customers the ability to provide exemplary customer service and technical support. Furthermore, DHL's global scale and DEX's specialist knowledge allow us to deliver a fully integrated operation on service parts, finished goods and parts management for our customers."

Sheldon Malchicoff, CEO of DEX commented: "The combination of DEX's expertise and DHL's outstanding capabilities as a global transportation and supply chain supplier, brings reduction in transportation time and costs, as well as superb repair capabilities to DHL's customers on a worldwide basis."

Initial product lines include IT equipment, consumer electronics, ATM's and printing equipment. DHL will initially offer the service to customers across IT, consumer electronics, and industrial equipment sectors.
