Vanderlande has been selected to implement a Zone Picking System for Fabory in Brno. Vanderlande was chosen because of the long-standing relationship with Fabory, as well as system robustness and design. The project will be going into operation mid 2011.

The Fabory branches in the Eastern European countries are supplied from a central warehouse in Brno, Czech Republic. Main supplier for this central warehouse is Fabory in Tilburg. The current Brno warehouse is too small to handle the growing stock and turnover. Manual picking is more and more expensive, because labour cost are increasing rapidly in Eastern Europe. Therefore Fabory asked Vanderlande to design an automated system for their new 'green field' warehouse. Fabory selected Vanderlande because of the long-standing relationship between the two companies, as well as system robustness and design. Fabory was already familiar with Vanderlande as the company installed a goods-to-man based Compact Picking System at Fabory's headquarters in Tilburg (The Netherlands). Currently Vanderlande is upgrading that system by replacing the 18 miniload AS/RS storage systems and adding one additional miniload AS/RS.

Based on customer data Vanderlande designed a Zone Picking System, containing 16 standard shelf pick locations divided over 2 floors. Six pick locations on the ground floor are also equipped with flow racks to replenish the shelves more efficiently. After order picking, the cartons are transported towards the shipping area for quality control, packing, automatic labelling and strapping and sortation (capacity of 300 order cartons per hour). The system and process are controlled by Vanderlande's VISION Warehouse Control  System, interfaced with the SAP host system. The project will start on site early 2011 and is expected to go into operation mid 2011.
