Reducing energy costs is paramount to manufacturing and logistics industries, yet millions of pounds are lost each year, simply by not sealing the vital gap in loading bays. sara LBS is meeting this challenge with its ranges of rigid, retractable, inflatable and foam dock seals, all of which can be tailored to suit all configurations and variations in a building's loading bay interface.

"A well designed loading bay with the correct dock seal can reduce industry's heating/process bills dramatically," said Ken Oldfield of sara LBS. "Substantial savings can be made because, with correct sealing between vehicle and building, the loading bay door is open for the shortest period of time, so building air change and temperature loss are kept to a minimum."

The benefits of effective loading bay design extend beyond energy saving. sara dock seals provide draught-free and weatherproof seals that improve safety by helping to avoid slippery surfaces, which can cause accidents to operators, and damage to goods or in-house materials.

The dock seals also provide improved protection, against pilfering, and against the elements. They offer safeguarding from pilfering of goods, from the outside, and ensure entry into the building only via controlled doors. As regards, the elements, wind, rain, dust or sun are hazards on many loading bays, either at ground or dock level, and can affect operators or goods. Protection from all these elements ensures a better and safer working environment, as does the reduction in noise achieved by the dock seals an important factor in residential areas.

In addition to improving energy efficiency, protection and safety, sara dock seals enable organisations to meet statutory requirements in most industries with the very latest in manufacturing materials, such as colourfast/washable materials, insulated panels (cold-store white finish), plastisol finishes, stainless and galvanised steels.

The sara range of dock seals offers the maximum in flexibility with a choice of three construction types: rigid or retractable, inflatable, and foam dock pads. Available in three frame constructions, the standard rigid or retractable dock seal is 3500mm wide x 3500mm high x 600mm deep, with head curtain drop of 1200mm, and side curtains of 650mm width each. Special sizes can be constructed to suit other applications.

The second unit in sara's range, inflatable dock shelters, is available in three configurations, allowing maximum flexibility to accommodate the widest range of vehicle heights. The inflatable seals offer the advantage that they can be mounted on buildings with light duty construction. They provide a smart tidy appearance even when deflated - and offer a choice of sealing air gap options between vehicle doors without major loadings either on the building or the seal.

sara's final offering, foam dock pad seals, are ideal for the food and cold store industries, due to the efficiency of their compression seal. The foam dock pads offer the advantage that they can be tapered to suit loading bay approach slopes, or have an adjustable head for various vehicle heights. They allow more seals on the building interface, and the fact that sections of the pads are replaceable can reduce maintenance costs.
