UK provider of materials handling training, Mentor, is making it easy for managers to respond to National Fork Lift Safety Week by booking themselves onto a specially-designed awareness course at a reduced rate. A recent report by the Fork Lift Truck Association (FLTA) revealed managers and supervisors are "often the weak link" in ensuring safe working conditions, and September's "Manage to be Safe" campaign encourages anyone with a supervisory role to develop their own knowledge, in order to protect front-line employees.

To show support for the campaign, and encourage managers to take action quickly, Mentor is offering a 25% discount on its unique, AITT-accredited Safety Awareness course until the end of the year.

Mentor managing director Richard Shore said: "It is a sad fact that time and budget constraints mean many managers neglect their own safety awareness leaving them poorly equipped to spot bad practice and eliminate potential risks. This short, fully-accredited course packs that vital information into two half-day sessions and especially with this additional discount, it's an excellent investment for all levels of management."

Combining hands-on workplace assessment exercises with a practical guide to a supervisor's duties under law, the Safety Awareness course is designed for anyone with full or part-time management responsibilities for staff working with or near fork lift trucks, and is available throughout the UK. With the discount taken into account, prices start from as little as 30 per delegate.

Richard Shore concludes: "Improved safety awareness already seems to be having an impact on accident figures among workers and members of the public, but FLTA have highlighted a skills gap at management level which could hinder further progress, and put staff at risk. It's an important issue, and we hope that our pricing the course in such an accessible way, and extending the discount offer until the end of 2010 will mean that no manager needs to miss out."
