To raise awareness of the issues affecting the UK haulage industry, national supply chain specialist TM Logistics (TML) met with Harriett Baldwin, Conservative party candidate for West Worcestershire, recently.

The meeting, which was part of an ongoing campaign organised by the Freight Transport Association (FTA), took place at TML's head office in Worcestershire.

As well as talking to staff, Ms Baldwin was given an overview of the UK haulage sector and according to TML's managing director Grahame Taylor, it was a chance for her to get a real feel for the issues facing his business.

"We were delighted to welcome Ms Baldwin and it was great to be given the opportunity to showcase our work and our people.

"For seventy years, our company has played a vital role in the region's economy, supporting customers the length and breadth of the UK with innovative, tailor-made solutions.

"Ms Baldwin was able to see how we're successfully steering our business through the recession and she was keen to understand the challenges we're currently facing like rising fuel prices and increased taxation."

Indeed, it was exactly this type of subject that Ms Baldwin was keen to discuss. Speaking after her visit, she commented:  "It was fascinating to hear how this local, family owned business has become a major national company, employing over 350 people in a very competitive marketplace."

The meeting was also attended by Ian Gallagher, the FTA's policy manager for the West Midlands. He added: "Ahead of the general election, FTA is keen to make sure that the next generation of lawmakers really understands the importance of what they do to the logistics industry. We are pleased that both Harriett and TM Logistics share our view of the importance of the relationship between MPs and an industry which employs thousands of people in every constituency across the UK."

TM Logistics employs over 350 people in 16 on-site operations and warehouses across the UK.  The firm operates throughout the UK and ranks many top name companies such as Bosch Thermotechnology Ltd, Crown Food UK, Kingspan Insulation, Rexam Beverage Can UK Ltd, Saint Gobain Isover and Plastic Omnium amongst its customer portfolio.
