Warehouse equipment supplier Hyster has launched a new order picking machine for businesses storing and picking items at heights of up to 6.5m.

The compact K1.0L series travels and lifts simultaneously, delivering superior performance and productivity from just a 24V battery. The new model builds on many of the features of the innovative Hyster VNA (Very Narrow Aisle) truck and will help managers to increase pick rates, reduce operating costs and improve energy efficiency.

Order picking at height relies on good travel and lift speeds and a truck that makes it easy for the operator to pick and drop off loads explains Robert ODonoghue, Warehouse Product Manager for Hyster Europe.

The new Hyster K1.0L is available in various configurations with platform heights up to 4.8m, 1,000kg load capacity and is also available with fixed forks, supplementary lift (SL) or a walk on pallet cage (WP). The models use similar technologies to those developed for the successful Hyster VNA* products.

The basic principles of medium level order picking parallel those found in man-up VNA operations for which we have developed market leading technology ODonoghue adds. Hyster has applied these benefits to maximise the efficiency of second and third level order picking.

AC motor technology combined with the MOSFET high frequency controller provides excellent traction and hydraulic control for smooth acceleration and lift performance with optimum energy efficiency. In addition, operators receive a choice of four performance settings allowing the truck to be configured to suit the specific application.  With progressive speed control helping to optimise energy efficiency, the truck also has enhanced controllability with automatic braking on cornering.

Travel to and from the pick face is optimised saving valuable seconds, helping to maintain hourly target pick rates ODonoghue says.  Electronic fly-by-wire power steering provides effortless operation from a spacious compartment that allows the operator to move freely. These trucks make it easy to switch from driving to picking in an instant.
The rising cab, with proportional lowering, has a low step height to ease access during stop and go operations with operator presence automatically detected by full platform sensing. Forks can be raised or lowered independently from the cab minimising the need for the operator to stretch, reducing fatigue.  Front, side and overhead guards ensure maximum protection for the operator.

Like all Hyster trucks, the K series has been developed with dependability in mind.  The strong, welded chassis structure and robust mast construction provide greater operator confidence and promote secure load handling. To help reduce damage to stock and the machine, a slack chain detection device, mounted on the mast, prevents further lowering if an obstacle is encountered.

Not only does the K1.0L help businesses pick faster, it is energy efficient and helps minimise the total ownership costs ODonoghue concludes, explaining that the AC motors are virtually maintenance free and the truck has easy service access to all components and service intervals of 1,000 hours.
The new Hyster K1.0L models are available in numerous configurations to suit all types of picking operation and options include a choice of cab widths, guidance options and cold store operation.
