TiltWatch Suits Souters and Eliminates Damage

TiltWatch, the active damage deterrent system from Lamerholm  Electronics has been successfully used by Souters Transport to virtually eliminate damage when shipping expensive diagnostics equipment across the country via United Pallet Network (UPN).

TiltWatch is an innovative system that helps to ensure sensitive products are kept in an upright position while being shipped. Souters Transport is a member UPN, one of the leading networks for palletised freight distribution.

As apart of UPN, we pride ourselves on our excellent customer service, not only on time delivery but also ensuring that all consignments arrive undamaged and in good condition. explains Tim Souter. However, it is inevitable that with many thousand pallets delivered per week, some being handled by forklifts 5-6 times on their journey, that some damage will occur. At one stage, we found that sensitive test equipment that the Network was delivering on behalf of our clients Snap-On Diagnostics UK was not being kept upright, as specified on the attached, passive labels. We had to look for a way to pinpoint when the damage occurred and to stop it from happening."

It was then that Souters found TiltWatch. TiltWatch is a simple to use but effective system for indicating when goods, that should remain upright, have been titled. With a simple one-step application, the TiltWatch device is automatically armed when the adhesive backing is removed. Once stuck onto the package it cannot be reset but is unaffected by normal handling conditions. The indicator on the label will change to red if shipments are tilted over 80.

At Souters Transport, a TiltWatch device was attached to each of the 50 - 60 pallets leaving the depot each week. Since implementing the programme, damage has been virtually eliminated and UPN as a whole recognises the TiltWatch labels and so takes extra care to ensure that "We have been very pleased with the results since using TiltWatch." says Tim.
