ULMA Packaging Ltd will be returning to the potato industry's showpiece exhibition BP2017 (22nd – 23rd November, Harrogate Yorkshire Event Centre) in Harrogate, promoting equipment that can help make taking crops to market more cost-effective and productive for growers.

This biennial show brings the multi-billion pound potato industry together for a unique 'seed to shopping trolley' event and ULMA's technical team will be in attendance to discuss the advantages of the company's high-speed packaging technology for handling, processing and retailing the crop.

Among the innovative systems available for packing the root vegetable is ULMA's horizontal offering for tray-less baking potatoes through the Atlanta flow wrapper Potatoes are fully regimented through the folding box via an adjustable overhead brush device. This has the capability of sealing various types of packaging materials.

Also of interest to potato growers will be ULMA's Vertical Form Fill and Seal (VFFS) range, particularly the flexible VTC 800 and VTI 600 – vertical packaging machinery designed for harsh environments and demanding cleaning processes.

ULMA is able to integrate any stand-alone equipment into a fully functioning line and has had considerable success supplying complete systems including VFFS, platform/gantry, linear/ MHW/ sorting/infeed/outfeed conveyors. The company also has its own automation team working to incorporate upstream and downstream solutions.

Machines are controlled via ULMA's own industrial PC. The data acquisition software (UDAQ) is available in several guises and in essence gives real-time reports of the machine status which can be downloaded to FTP for event analysis. Remote Service Management is also achievable. The RSM facilitates rapid diagnosis and repair on all ULMA equipment.

With the looming potential of possible labour shortages for a very labour-intensive crop picking process, ULMA believes now is the time for potato growers to look at automating the pack house to reduce manual intervention and release more staff to gather in their produce.

ULMA's UK Managing Director, Chris Pickles, said: "The potato industry event is a unique opportunity for us to advise growers on the latest developments by ULMA in cutting-edge packaging technology that can help boost business for this important produce sector."

One of the world's leading suppliers of packaging machinery and complete automated lines, ULMA prides itself on being part of the Mondragon Co-Operative committed to suppling robust packaging machinery that combines high production speeds with exceptional accuracy.

Not just known for its ability to supply all-round packaging solutions, ULMA offers a full after sales support service giving its customers peace of mind that production lines can be maintained effectively and businesses run smoothly and efficiently. An approved supplier to multiple retailers and small businesses alike, ULMA has the biggest range of solutions available anywhere in the UK and is leading the way for innovative, efficient and robust packaging equipment.
