Courier Express Refrigerated Transport Ltd, the UK provider of refrigerated transport solutions, has invested £40,000 in SmartCam solutions from Crystal Ball to improve road safety and reduce insurance costs across its extensive fleet.

Crystal Ball's SmartCam dashboard cameras will initially be fitted in 12 vehicles, ranging from small 1.9 tonne to large 26 tonne refrigerated trucks, with plans to increase that number to 20 in the coming months as part of Courier Express Ltd's commitment to improving fleet efficiency and performance.

SmartCam, one of the most sophisticated and powerful vehicle cameras currently available, combines full HD 1080p video recording and fully integrated fleet tracking technology for a complete vehicle tracking system. Any recording is transmitted via a secure 3G private network to a web-based Graphic User Interface (GUI), which can be accessed via a desktop computer, laptop, tablet, or even smartphone using the company's innovative app.

The SmartCam – which will be combined with the FleetTracker vehicle tracking system already in use by Courier Express Ltd – will not only allow the refrigerated courier to reduce insurance premiums and operational costs, but also improve driver behaviour across its fleet.

John Lee, managing director of Courier Express, said: "We are delighted to have added Crystal Ball's SmartCams to our fleet. This investment in modern technology represents a significant step forward for our company and will enable us to deliver a more efficient and reliable service to our growing nationwide customer base.

"By pairing the new cameras with the FleetTracker vehicle tracking system already in place, we will be able to monitor our entire fleet with ease to ensure we continue to deliver on time, every time."
