Leicestershire logistics company makes carbon neutrality a key priority

Core Management Logistics (CML) has prioritised the need to be carbon neutral by planting 808 new trees up and down the UK.

Following research by CDP (formerly the Carbon Disclosure Project) and the BSR (Business for Social Responsibility), which found that many supply chain companies are struggling with the latest UN resolution on climate change, CML is bucking the trend and reducing their carbon footprint.

CML, based in Magna Park, Lutterworth, teamed up with eForest to offset their carbon emissions by 404 tonnes of CO2, which is represented by the newly planted trees.

The privately owned supply-chain services company, who specialise in retail warehousing and distribution and global freight forwarding services, opened a second warehouse last year after a surge in demand from its prestigious list of clients.

The new warehouse stretches to 115,000sq. ft. and has created 78 new jobs over the last year to meet the significant increase of business from existing contracts with retail giants such as Marks & Spencer and L.K. Bennett and new clients including Finery London and The Silver Crane Company.

This is especially important for supply chain companies like CML at this time following UN agreement to reduce global greenhouse gas emissions to zero by the end of the century."

The historic international deal at the UN climate conference, the COP21 Paris agreement, calls for global greenhouse gas emissions to reduce to net zero well before the end of the century.

The study, produced by CDP and written in partnership with the BSR, found that supply chains are responsible for up to four times the global greenhouse gas of a company's direct operations and present ample opportunity for businesses to lower emissions.

The planting of the new trees is part of CML's on-going commitment to the environment. In 2015 the company took part in a big environmental project to ship 450,000 solar panels to the UK to be used in new solar farms, which were installed on behalf of Lightsource Renewable Energy Ltd at sites across England and South Wales.
