The UK's second largest independent grocer TJ Morris, has selected Microlise after evaluating the market and the Microlise solution set. Key imperatives were to help save fuel, reduce carbon emissions, improve health and safety and increase the efficiency of its transport operations.

Like Microlise, TJ Morris was established over 30 years ago. Since opening his first store in Liverpool, owner Tom Morris has grown the business organically to become one of the biggest privately owned companies in the UK (Number one in the Sunday Times Top Track 250, 2011).

The company now boasts over 280 stores and employs more than 10,000 staff. It is widely regarded as one of the largest businesses in Merseyside.

The contract award will see Microlise tracking and telematics implemented across TJ Morris' substantial fleet of tractor units and trailers. Using the system TJ Morris can expect to reduce their fleet fuel bill, reduce mileage and store turn-around times and improve fleet utilisation as the business continues to expand.

In carrying out a detailed evaluation of a number of tracking and telematics vendors, the transport team at TJ Morris used a variety of criteria to benchmark the various offerings. Microlise not only met but exceeded each of the requirements to win the 5 year contract.

Joe Morris, Operations Director at TJ Morris commented, "Once the evaluation was complete, choosing Microlise was quite an easy decision. As you'd expect from an established telematics company, they had specific extensions to their product that Retail Fleets require which others couldn't supply and they could integrate seamlessly with our existing Routing and Scheduling system from Paragon."

TJ Morris have chosen to implement a comprehensive solution into their trucks. This includes vehicle tracking and telematics with integrated digital tachograph for Driver ID and Microlise's new tacho-modes module which allows managers to quickly assess driver hours and enables quicker decision making regarding additional jobs such as back haul on return journeys.

They have also opted for Microlise's recently released rugged in-cab 7" touch screen tablet using a variant of the popular Microlise SmartPOD application with driver communication, integrated commercial vehicle Satellite Navigation and Site notes.

In addition, TJ Morris' trailer fleet will be fitted with the state-of-the-art Microlise Trailer Tracking Unit with integrated door sensors giving them a more granular level of information around trailer usage, route & schedule adherence and turnaround times, plus increased load security.

Chris Wallace, Sales Director at Microlise commented, "We are delighted to have such an established and well known company to partner with us and we are very much looking forward to helping TJ Morris improve driving economies, reduce risk and better utilise & increase the overall efficiency of their fleet."
