Kuehne + Nagel and Benetton have been awarded for their solution transforming Benetton's Inbound Supply Chain. The awards ceremony for the 9th edition of the Logistics Award of the Year was held in Milan. Initiated and organised by Assologistica, the Italian Logistics Association, the magazine Euromerci and Assologistica Cultura e Formazione, it recognises companies, managers and academics who generate added values by introducing and successfully implementing innovative solutions in various logistics areas from technology to real estate, training, transport or environment.

The awarded project applied to the optimisation of airfreight and seafreight flows of finished products from third party suppliers of the Benetton Group to its main distribution centre in Italy. The suppliers are based in ten Asian countries and in Egypt. In total, Benetton works with hundreds of suppliers sending products by airfreight and seafreight via over 50 trade lanes. Kuehne + Nagel controls the supply chain commencing with the booking process. Responsibilities include the streamlining of the communication between all suppliers, buying offices, carriers and brokers, ensuring transparency as well as visibility and enabling the customer to proactively detect and manage potential discrepancies. The solution implemented increases operational efficiency and improves shipment visibility and control as well as performance tracking of vendors, carriers and service providers. Furthermore, it enables faster order management lead times. Kuehne + Nagel is the single point of contact.

"This project with Kuehne + Nagel has been challenging for us. The main purpose was to obtain the real time track & trace for every step of our process. In order to do so, we had to work on several rings of a complex chain that leads Benetton goods from Asia to our hub in Treviso. Kuehne + Nagel translated our needs very well and built a strong network of interconnections making the project alive," commented Daniele Fregnan, Global IT and logistics director of Benetton.

Paolo Guidi, Sales & Marketing Director Kuehne + Nagel Italy, added: "This award is important for us, as we receive it together with our customer Benetton. It recognises the combination of expertise, processes and technology from both partners and the supply chain transformation of our customer at a global level. It is both an acknowledgement of our innovative solutions and a great motivation for us to further develop products and improve processes to optimally support our customers in their day-to-day business challenges."
