New fleet for Steve Porter Transport

The Isle of Wight's largest independent freight carrier, Steve Porter Transport, has invested £1 million in 13 new tractor units for its transport and distribution division.

The new fleet will comprise of five DAF FTDXXF105 tractors, six DAF FTGCF85 tractors and two DAF FA65CF250 18 tonne curtainsiders. Each vehicle comes fully fitted with the latest AS tronic gearbox and state of the art microlise telematics.

The investment follows the recent £3/4 million upgrade of 40 of Steve Porter Transport trailers, and will ensure a first class national and international freight service is offered to companies on the Isle of Wight, the Channel Islands and throughout the UK.

Managing Director of Steve Porter Transport, Malcolm Gibson, said: "As our freight offering continues to grow throughout the UK and Channel Islands, it is important for us to maintain and operate a first class fleet of vehicles. This ensures that we can continue to provide a reliable and efficient service to all our customers."

The new upgraded fleet, provided by Ryder Trucks, will operate out of the firm's headquarters on the Isle of Wight and from its South Coast depots in Portsmouth and Southampton. The firm also has access to a wide range of other vehicles through its new partnership arrangements.

Steve Porter Transport Group also has a strong commercial partnership with Isle of Wight ferry company Red Funnel having acquired its distribution division in 2011. It is the ferry operators preferred freight partner, operating a unique cross-Solent drop-trailer operation.

As part of its Complete Transport and Distribution Service, Steve Porter Transport provides full load distribution and a next-day delivery service for any size consignment around the UK.
