APC Overnight, the UK privately owned next-day parcel delivery company, has appointed its first independent non-executive director following record growth.

Chris Davies, former CEO of FTSE listed SIG PLC, the largest distributor of specialist construction materials in Europe, has been brought in to provide corporate insight and strategic advice to the expanding business.

The appointment follows a number of years of successive growth, which led APC Overnight to invest £16.5 million in a new sortation centre, which was completed earlier this year.

Speaking about his new position Chris said: "APC Overnight has grown significantly in recent years. Whether in a multi-billion pound listed company such as SIG or an independent delivery company in the APC Overnight network, the consistent provision of exceptional customer service, reliability and speed of delivery are common priorities, and APC Overnight rates highly in these areas with customers. I'm looking forward to providing a new perspective to the Board, and to helping the company to continue to grow and maintain its outstanding service standards throughout the UK."

Chief Executive of APC Overnight, Karl Brown, said: "Chris has been working in the logistics industry for more than 25 years. With APC Overnight going from strength to strength, and our latest investment reasserting our position as the UK's largest independent delivery company, Chris's experience of working with larger business is sure to prove invaluable."
