Farrall's Transport, the Cheshire-based logistics service provider, has invested £1.5 million expanding the company's transport fleet to support business growth, improve environmental performance and increase fuel-efficiency. Since March 2013, Farrall's has taken delivery of 13 new Volvo trucks and 10 new trailers complete with tail-lifts, boosting the company's delivery power to 40 vehicles and 60 trailers.

The strategic investment is part of a major business expansion plan for the logistics services company and follows steady growth in new contract wins and a take-up of 'value added' activities.

"Investing for the future, through buying the latest fuel-efficient and environmentally compliant trucks under-scores our commitment to customer service, sustainability and business growth," says Mike Farrall, Managing Director of Farrall's Transport. "In the logistics sector, having an efficient fleet that is low-maintenance, low fuel consumption and Euro 5 compliant, is now vital to winning new business in an ever more carbon-conscious commercial environment. This investment makes a significant contribution to our competitive edge."

A mixture of Volvo FM, FH and FL models, all 13 new vehicles comply with the latest environmental and emissions standards, meeting Euro 5 regulations – giving Farrall's an estimated 16-18% fuel saving. "Being Euro 5 compliant is critical for consignments destined for London. We wanted to ensure we had the fleet to support and expand our distribution capacity to the capital," says Mike Farrall.

As a founding member and shareholder of Palletforce, Farrall's Transport's has invested in Volvo FL models to support the company's commitment to the pallet network. Volvo FL models were selected for their rear wheel steer capability which gives extra manoeuvrability to rigid vehicles, making them well suited for high capacity collection and delivery in city centres and urban areas. Two of the new vehicles have been finished in Palletforce livery.
