DHL Supply Chain has been awarded a ten year contract worth over £24m with Gatwick Airport Limited, to manage inbound deliveries through its new logistics and consolidation facility on behalf of the airport's 150 partners and retailers.

The new centre will integrate seamlessly into Gatwick's developing infrastructure and provide real benefits to retailers at the airport, delivering a cost effective, end-to-end and airport-wide logistics solution.

DHL will utilise experience and expertise gained from the management of logistics consolidation and air cargo centres around the world to deliver an industry-leading and highly secure logistics operation that maximises product availability on the shelf.

StyleFlow, DHL's in-house IT system will manage the efficient flow of goods from multiple suppliers into Gatwick, providing the airport's partners and retailers with increased picking and dispatch efficiency, reduced order fulfillment time and better control of inventory and resources - ultimately ensuring stock reaches the shelves as soon as possible for an optimised supply chain experience.

In turn, there will be a significant reduction in final mile deliveries to the airport, cutting CO2 emissions and congestion at airport control posts.

David Valentine, Logistics Programme Leader at Gatwick Airport Limited commented: "Our goal is to service 40 million passengers per year at Gatwick by 2018, and to achieve this we need to deliver a great passenger experience. Providing our partners and retailers with an efficient and secure platform supported by a solution that gives full visibility and tracking of their products is essential; it's what DHL is known for, making them our ideal partner."

Paul Richardson, Managing Director of Specialist Services at DHL Supply Chain added: "Recognising the need to keep the airport's partners and retailers front of mind was paramount to DHL, and our experience within the airport sector will support Gatwick's partners and retailers in providing an exceptional experience for travelers.  Driving and delivering change within the airline and airport communities is a key focus for DHL – and this partnership will definitely help us do that."
