SDI Group, the global integrator of automated material handling systems, has entered the postal and package e-commerce market with the creation of a specialist company, SDI Sortation Solutions Ltd.

Offering world-leading sortation technology developed by SDI Group over the last 30 years, the new company will enable integrators specialising in the postal sector to enhance their solutions using robust, low-maintenance, proven sortation technology.

Designed and developed for the mid-market, where many parcel companies and e-tailers are looking for solutions capable of sorting 4000 – 15,000 items per hour, the extensive range of products available includes Bomb Bay, high-speed tight-turn units, and tilt-tray sorters.

"The rapid expansion of the online retail market has placed great demands on e-fulfilment operations, with many parcel carriers and e-tailers now realising they need to invest in automation to increase levels of efficiency and meet customer expectations. SDI Sortation Solutions Ltd will make high-speed sortation technology available to those companies – and the integrators that support the market - at a rate of return on investment that offers great value to the mid-market," said Gordon Smith, CEO, SDI Group and SDI Sortation Solutions Ltd.

"This is UK sortation technology that has been supplied to a great multitude of applications across the globe - over many years of continual investment and development - and it's now available to the postal sector. We have the product diversity, technology and the support infrastructure in place to offer a highly competitive alternative to the traditional postal systems providers based in continental Europe," he says.

Designed around modules and built using standard components, SDI Sortation Solution's versatile range of sorters can easily be configured to the individual needs of an application, aiding flexibility and swift installation. Software systems to support the sorter ranges are also available – developed by SDI Group's Germany based specialist software company.

Helping to reduce maintenance and minimise downtime, friction drive technology is used extensively across the product portfolio, removing the need for drive belts or specialist drive systems. And should a tray get damaged, an easy-to-change tray design facilitates maintenance operations - maximising up-time.

SDI Sortation Solutions will have the full benefit of SDI Group's established European network of support and maintenance engineers, providing 24/7 coverage.
