Palletline Plc's approach to health and safety has been recognised in an awards scheme run by the safety charity, the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA).

Palletline was honoured for the stringent processes in place at its Birmingham central hub, receiving a Gold award at the RoSPA Occupational Health and Safety Awards 2013.

The award was presented in earlier this month at a ceremony at the Hilton Birmingham Metropole Hotel, at the National Exhibition Centre.

Dating back 57 years, the RoSPA Awards scheme is the largest and longest-running programme of its kind in the UK. It recognises commitment to accident and ill health prevention and is open to businesses and organisations of all types and sizes from across the UK and overseas. The scheme not only looks at accident records, but also entrants' overarching health and safety management systems, including practices such as leadership and workforce involvement.

Kevin Buchanan, Managing Director of Palletline, said: "We're delighted to accept this respected award. Our strong belief in a consistent 'top down' approach to health and safety ensures it is integral to the culture of our organisation. Special mention goes to Ken Bell, Health and Safety Manager whose dedication was essential to achieving this accreditation.

"Palletline has been committed to health and safety since day one. We were the first pallet network to achieve full de-pedestrianisation of our hubs – an initiative that delivers significant safety benefits and remains a key part of a pioneering approach that persists to this day."

David Rawlins, RoSPA's awards manager, said: "RoSPA firmly believes that organisations that demonstrate commitment to continuous improvement in accident and ill health prevention deserve recognition. Palletline Plc has shown that it is committed to striving for such continuous improvement and we are delighted to honour it through the presentation of an award."

Palletline has also been shortlisted for the Safety in Operation Award at the prestigious Motor Transport Awards.
