As part of its 'First Choice Employer' initiative, logistics provider DHL Supply Chain has partnered with Cranfield School of Management to deliver an 'Efficient Warehouse Practices' programme, aimed specifically at Warehouse Managers and General Managers.

Since January this year, nearly sixty Warehouse Managers have attended the two day programme, covering such critical issues as Planning & Control, Labour Management, Warehouse Layout, Materials Handling, Goods in and Putaway, Picking and Packing, and Loading.

On completion of the course, and with mentoring from a nominated senior management representative, each delegate will be tasked with producing a detailed Site Assessment Action Plan to deliver cost savings, with progress regularly tracked and reviewed.

"In the current economic climate when we're looking at every aspect of supply chain efficiency, the missing piece of the jigsaw lay in ensuring our warehouse managers had the latest skills and techniques at their disposal to drive continuous improvement in our customers' supply chains," explains Chris Sharp, MD Operational Excellence at DHL Supply Chain.

"I'm delighted that Cranfield shared our vision and were keen to work with us to develop a programme tailored specifically to warehouse practitioners. Already the results have been dramatic, with delegates making significant efficiency savings."

John Hadfield, Executive Development Director at the Centre for Customised Executive Development at Cranfield added: "The Efficient Warehouse Practices programme is an excellent example of how Cranfield works closely with its clients to enable them to improve performance. Working collaboratively, DHL Supply Chain brings its knowledge and business acumen, and faculty from The Cranfield Centre for Logistics and Supply Chain Management bring expertise which is acknowledged to be world-class.  We are delighted to be working with DHL."
