Mentor Managing Forklift Operations course shortlisted for Design 4 Safety award

Mentor's Managing Forklift Operations course has been shortlisted in the Safety Practices category at IMHX's Design 4 Safety Awards 2013 for its contribution to the promotion of safety awareness and incident reduction.

The course aims to eliminate the potential missing link between providing operator training and achieving a safe working environment. Unlike employees who regularly use forklift trucks, managers and supervisors are not required to be qualified forklift operators. This is a potentially dangerous knowledge gap given the high rate of injuries that stem from incorrect use of the equipment.  It is also costly, with thousands of pounds being spent every year to replace damaged stock, racking and trucks.

Recognising that carefully-prepared safety procedures are only as good as the supervisors who enforce them, Mentor's Managing Forklift Operations course equips managers with the specialist knowledge and confidence to stop a dangerous occurrence in its tracks. The course covers relevant legislation, responsibilities under law, potential penalties and key safety principles such as stability characteristics and pre-shift checks.

To date, 550 managers and supervisors have been trained and are putting theory into practice among their teams, implementing the correct operating procedures and spreading key safety messages within their workplace.

Though readily available in its existing format, the Managing Forklift Operations course can also be tailored to reflect customer specific environments and procedures. As part of their new arm, Mentor Performance and Risk Management (Mentor PRM) provide bespoke programmes and courses to meet individual customer requirements.
