DHL Supply Chain has extended its partnership with Poundland, the European single-price discount retailer, in support of the company's ambitious expansion plans. Already managing logistics for the company's outbase operations serving 200 stores nationwide, DHL will now oversee all transport operations from a new £7 million distribution centre in Hoddesdon, Herts, delivering 13,000 pallets per week to over 4.5 million customers.
Poundland selected DHL for its collaboration strategy, under which the discount retailer will share transport management and fleet with another of DHL's customers, creating significant supply chain efficiencies.
"The scale, experience and resource of DHL can really support a business such as ours," said Huw Jenkins, Poundland's Head of Distribution. "The whole start-up operation has been a great success so far and I look forward to building and developing a very productive relationship with DHL."
Jon Wood, VP of Non Food Retail at DHL Supply Chain, added: "Our innovative collaboration strategy and ability to support Poundland's growth agenda were key to our appointment, as well as our ingrained knowledge of the business due to our long-term partnership. We're delighted that Poundland has chosen DHL to support its South East operation and look forward to implementing a collaborative, value-added solution for the business over the coming years."
