An accurate dispensing system, a paper cushioning system and shrink film for multipack applications are among the products being pitched at this year's Lions' Lair competition during the Packaging Innovations show, which takes place at Birmingham's NEC on 27 & 28 February 2013.

The ever-popular Lions' Lair, where the bravest exhibitors pitch their latest innovations to a panel of fierce packaging experts, will be taking place on Thursday 28 February at 2pm in the International Brand Summit.

EasyPack (stand D18) is entering the competition with PackMate, a compact, online, paper cushioning system. Drawing on 20 years of development thinking, EasyPack's designers believe they have found the solution to the key problems that face packaging and logistics, but will the Lions agree?

The second company stepping into the ring is Ceisa Packaging (stand E28) with Full'Wrap. This is a special shrink film formulated for multipack applications and used exclusively with the KHS FullyEnclosed FilmPack™.  A dedicated solution for large packs of cans or bottles, it eliminates the need for a corrugated tray to reinforce the packaging, thereby reducing packaging costs and improving the pack's environmental impact.

Teamplast BV (stand J59), in collaboration with its client Bark Innovations, has developed The Bark Dosing System. Designed to provide exact dosage to the millilitre, thus ensuring no waste,  the special mechanism in the dispensing chamber, allows a concentrated dosage to sit isolated from the rest of the contents, but can be mixed when poured.

The winning company will be awarded with the Lions' Lair accolade; the results will be announced at the show once all the votes have been counted.

Packaging Innovations will also feature 50 free-to-attend learnShops spanning every aspect of packaging and delivered by industry experts. Show favourite, The BIG Packaging Debate will take place on the first day of the show, Wednesday 27 February at 3.30pm. The panel of packaging professionals will be debating the topic: 'Consumers don't buy sustainable packaging'.

Packaging Innovations is co-located with five other shows:  Ecopack, Contract Pack, Packtech, Print Innovations and new for 2013 Labelling Innovations.
