DBL Logistics will commence construction of the 33,500sqft warehouse and office building on Tinsley Park Road in February after purchasing 2.25 acres of land from Sheffield City Council.

The company is a Gold Member depot of UPN (United Pallet Network) and is currently based on Europa Close in Sheffield, employing 22 people.

It has seen its turnover increase to more than £3million a year and the development, which is expected to take around six months, will enable DBL Logistics to significantly expand its warehouse capacity from 1,500 pallets space to around 6,000.

Phase two will see a further 16,500sqft added by May 2014 and will increase DBL Logistics pallets space even further to around 9,000.

DBL Logistics, which received a £1.8million finance package from HSBC Bank to support the development, is increasing the amount of vehicles in its fleet from 15 to 25 and purchasing more than £265,000-worth of equipment for the new facility.

David Clarkson, managing director of DBL Logistics, said: "This is an exciting development for the business and will significantly increase our capacity to provide warehousing and distribution services for companies across the country.

"We are currently working at maximum capacity from our existing site and customer demand is increasing. We therefore needed to expand our facilities to meet this need in the market and grow the business further."

UPN has more than 65 depots throughout the UK and founder member DBL Logistics is currently one of only three shareholder members across the country.

David became managing director in 1998, taking over from his father Bert who founded the business 30 years ago as Yorkshire Distribution Services. Bert continues to work with DBL Logistics as operations director and the company now warehouses and distributes a range of goods around the world.

David added: "The company has changed a lot during the last 30 years and has adapted successfully to ensure we continue to provide a modern, professional and family-friendly service to all our customers.

"The creation of the new distribution centre is a further step forward in maintaining our position as a flagship depot within UPN and allows us to provide first-class travel and support to even more businesses."

Martyn Chapman, chairman and founder of UPN, said: "These are exciting times for DBL. Since joining UPN twelve years ago, DBL has constantly been recognised throughout the network as setting the standards for other members to achieve both in service and sales.

"We look forward to continuing to work in partnership with DBL throughout the coming years and sharing in their continued success."
