Twenty-five per cent of the companies that have reached the finalists' shortlists in the British International Freight Association (BIFA) 2012 Freight Services Awards have either entered or made those shortlists for the first time in the 23 years that the awards have been run.
The finalists in the nine award categories are as follows:

The competition is being judged in late 2012, during the Olympian year, where UK freight forwarders played a significant role in delivering cargo to support the running of the Games.
Peter Quantrill, Director General of BIFA, said: ""This year, the entries from new Members and first time entrants, show the strong interest in the Awards that have come to represent the best of British forwarding. The BIFA awards are inclusive and encourage entries from small, medium and large companies. I applaud the effort put into all the entries that were, as ever, of the highest quality. It is not luck, but hard work and determination to provide customers with first-class service every time, which is key to winning one of the BIFA awards.
"Even if you didn't enter, our Awards Luncheon in January is much more than a lunch – I always view it as a chance to put aside competitive pressures and meet with other forwarders to network, make friends and catch up with BIFA and its staff and other industry figures.
"We are delighted that former Olympian, Derek Redmond, who achieved gold medals at World, European and Commonwealth levels, has accepted to be the host at the BIFA Awards ceremony. The spirit of the Olympians and Paralympians, who fought the clock and their own pain barriers just a few miles from the lunch venue, remain an inspiration for all our Members."
The category winners will be announced at the BIFA Awards Ceremony Luncheon to be held at The Brewery, Chiswell Street, London EC1 on Thursday 17th January 2013.
