Palletforce Chief Executive Michael Conroy said: "I welcome the proposed investment to the country's road networks outlined in the Chancellor's Autumn Statement.

Each year traffic congestion costs the country billions of pounds and the national infrastructure plan will help to ease the pressure on our overcrowded roads.

However, investment in our roads alone is not enough. The logistics sector is the backbone of British business, employing approximately 300,000 people and generating over 20 billion in turnover each year, and more needs to be done to help transport firms during this period of great economic uncertainty.

There should be a greater focus on making more efficient use of our road networks and pallet networks like Palletforce can help to ensure there is a more joined up approach to providing sustainable transport solutions. I would urge the government to work more closely with our membership and utilise their experience and expertise to solve the country's transport issues and get the economy moving again."

Palletforce is made up of 100 of the country's leading hauliers and working together the network and its members are able to dramatically cut the number of empty trucks running on our roads.
