A Manchester logistics firm spent 75K upgrading its warehouses enabling it to handle specialist goods. AKW Group which has over 500,000 square feet of warehousing at Trafford Park will now be able to safely handle aerosols and other products that contain compressed gases or liquids within a segregation hazardous product storage area. Improvements at the warehouse include the installation of low heat lighting, temperature controls, and reinforcement of the storage bays.

"The investment further proves our commitment to the site at Trafford Park," said Julian Richards, Managing Director of AKW Group. "Our location and the continuing improvements we are making put us in an extremely strong position to drive the business forward." The upgrade, which took six months, has earned AKW Group lower tier Control of Accident Hazards (COMAH) status, which means it can handle products that need to be kept in controlled conditions.

"As a business in a very competitive industry we are always looking at new ways to expand and add value for customers, this latest investment in our warehousing will enable us to do this by opening our services to a wider market," said Julian. "We identified a need within the marketplace for specialist aerosol storage and consequently invested in upgrading part of our warehouse operation to lower tier COMAH status. AKW continues to attract an ever increasing number of clients based on its excellent service reputation and with this additional service we hope to attract more new business."

Donn Houldsworth, AKW Group Quality Manager, said: "The quality processes that are in place across the group enabled us the quickly acquire COMAH status and extend further our range of services to cover lower tier COMAH requirements."
