Used heavily in Germany and Spain, and piloted in the UK for the last 12 months, Hellmann Connect, the in-house customised portal for Hellmann Worldwide Logistics' online bookings, has officially launched after seeing over 5000 consignments entered into the application to date.

The portal is one of many developments the logistics giant has invested in recently.  Written and built by the head office in Germany the portal is Hellmann owned, unlike its predecessor, and boasts a much more user-friendly journey and greater levels of flexibility.

Ruling out the need to install software or use a specific PC, Hellmann Connect is purely internet based and can be accessed by users anywhere. It can also be syndicated with any printer; meaning individual consignments and proof of deliveries can be emailed and printed anywhere.

Hellmann Connect follows in the footsteps of Hellmann Track & Trace, which has been used in the UK for over 10 years, and can also be customised by different templates. Freight consignments to Germany, for example, can be allocated a template to limit the amount of data entry needed and save on time allocated to administrative duties.

Hellmann Connect enables users to manage shipments and addresses, view shipments scheduled and transfer shipment data records into the Hellmann in-house shipment management system once they're completed. Before data records are transferred, a label with a unique SSCC barcode is generated, which is essential for a proper routing. Freight lists are also compiled which show all shipments included in the day end and are handed to the Hellmann drivers.

Matthew Marriott, Commercial Director of Hellmann Worldwide Logistics UK, said: "Hellmann Connect has been extremely well received over the last 12 months, specifically because of its ease of use and the visibility it gives our customers. Sitting alongside our Track & Trace system which can alert customers every time a delivery is moved, scanned or shipped (we have a choice of 30 different options), our relationship with our customers is getting stronger every day."

Customers can also control all dates for pick up, and hazardous materials and measurements can be noted via Hellmann Connect. A traffic light system is used to highlight finished shipments, active shipments, inactive shipments and planned shipments.
