Bedford-based JDL Logistics, a third party logistics (3PL) storage and distribution company with over 6,000 square metres of warehouse space and a fleet of 15 vehicles, has responded to seasonal business demand and also met its longer-term warehouse performance objectives by investing in a DeltaWMS:Third Party Logistics system. Delta Software successfully configured, user-trained and went live with the system in one week with "low-to-no" disruption to operations, according to JDL, which plans to integrate DeltaWMS with its existing transport management and finance systems. JDL services include reworking and relabelling for industries such as drinks and toys. Other industries serviced by JDL include plastics, packaging and building supplies.
"There's very little you need to do to get the DeltaWMS system going. Achieving go-live in one week was impressive" says JDL Logistics Managing Director Lesley O'Neill, who is also a former IT consultant. "Our previous software couldn't support our immediate seasonal and longer-term business objectives. DeltaWMS can - very cost-effectively. Our warehouse put-away and picking processes are already more streamlined, delivering substantial performance improvements as we operate more quickly in our complex, customised 3PL environment and we have access to better management information. All stock movements are displayed on a digital warehouse map, in real time. We can produce accurate and detailed, right-first-time invoices, electronically. And our third party customers can input, edit and monitor the progress of their orders online, using the DeltaWMS web module," Lesley O'Neill says.
"We can do for almost any logistics company what we have just done for JDL" says Delta Software Operations Director Lance Bennett. "The speed of our systems deployment is down to a combination of smart, highly flexible technology deployed by experienced project management teams."
DeltaWMS:Third Party Logistics (3PL) system
The DeltaWMS:Third Party Logistics (3PL) best-in-class warehouse management solution has been developed to meet the competitive and complex multiple-customer, just-in-time service needs of the 3PL market with customer-by-customer stock accounting, labelling, inventory management and online customer reporting. The system can also be integrated with the external 3PL customer's IT environment.
DeltaWMS:Third Party Logistics is suitable for shared user and sole-contract environments; control parameters allow the user to configure the system for each contract customer. Delta Software's tailored, contract-specific system services include label design, client EDI interfaces and stationery.
The system's Internet web browser module allows both user and customer to directly manage stock and orders from anywhere in the world, 24/7 and in real-time, improving customer service and reducing administration.
For paper-based put-away and picking, barcode scanning or fully functional radio frequency (RF) warehouse environments the DeltaWMS system is designed to improve stock location accuracy, reduce labour costs and enhance customer service levels. DeltaWMS enables full stock traceability - from point of receipt to point of dispatch - for every item that moves through the warehouse.
Suitable for both single- and multi-site users, DeltaWMS:Third Party Logistics has an open database and can be quickly and cost-effectively integrated within any enterprise or smaller business to deliver immediate bottom line benefits and a faster return on investment, say Delta Software.
