Wincanton has purchased a time and attendance solution from Kronos to simplify and standardise timekeeping processes for 15,000 employees across 78 Wincanton sites in the UK and Ireland.

Kronos was selected as a preferred supplier to Wincanton three years ago, when the first 14 sites started using Kronos to record working time. Wincanton will now standardise workforce management across 78 sites. The business drivers for the project are to move to a single database, standardise the process for recording time, improve reporting, reduce unnecessary administration, and gain greater head office visibility to working hours across all sites.

Prior to Kronos, Wincanton used manual time sheets and Excel-based spreadsheets to record employee working time. With real-time labour tracking in Kronos, and web-based access to the system, administration time will be reduced and payroll errors virtually eliminated.

Employees will use terminals with biometric verification capabilities to record their working time, which eliminates the need for swipe cards, which can be lost or mislaid. Wincanton will also use Kronos to hold and monitor all employee work schedules, ensuring that line managers are alerted immediately when an employee does not arrive for a shift, or when employees are working longer than their scheduled hours.

Commenting on the project, Julie Mullen Kronos Lead, Wincanton explains, "Once the roll out is completed we expect to see the same benefits that we have noted at the 14 Wincanton sites currently using Kronos. These include the elimination of pay queries, the ability to spot absence trends, the reduction in supervisor time to manage the high volume of administration, and the availability of real-time time tracking, which can be accessed from any location. Kronos also has the functionality for activity-based time recording, which is not part of this project, but something we may consider further down the line."

Keith Statham, Managing Director of Kronos, comments, "We're delighted that Wincanton has already seen the benefits of simplifying  and automating time keeping processes and standardising the collection and management of working time. We look forward to working with the team to bring a further 64 sites up and running on the system."
