CILT launches annual awards 2010 call for entries

The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport in the UK (CILT) has announced arrangements for its Annual Awards for Excellence for 2010 and this year welcomes entries in eleven categories.  Entries are required before 28th May and the results will be announced at a Gala Dinner to be held in London on 7th October.  Sponsorship opportunities remain available in a limited number of categories.

The prestigious CILT Awards seek to identify organisations and individuals whose performance has been outstanding and the Institute encourages entries from companies of all sizes and sectors, and from the personnel within them.  CILT Awards for Excellence are widely recognised and acclaimed by the industry, its press and community, as due recognition and a source of pride to colleagues, shareholders, clients and future employers.

Entries are welcomed in the following categories:-

        Young Manager, sponsored by Wincanton plc.  Open to managers of not more than 35 years old by 31 December 2010, the award is for excellence in any function relating to the management of logistics and transport.  The judges will look for achievements beyond the normal expectation of managers of that age and experience.

        Supply Chain Innovation, sponsored by Norbert Dentressangle.  For outstanding achievement in managing supply chains from procurement through manufacturing to final delivery.

        Logistics Best Practice, sponsored by Freight Best Practice.  For outstanding achievement in any aspect of freight transport, including operations, processes and service.

        Materials Handling Equipment and Technology, sponsored by Chep.  Technical improvements in design and equipment in the use of materials handling technology.

        Passenger Transport, available for sponsorship.  For outstanding achievement in the transport of passengers by road, rail, water or air.

        Safety, sponsored by NYK Logistics.  Programmes which demonstrate improvement in safety standards either within one organisation, trading partners or the wider community.

        Transport Policy and Planning, available for sponsorship.  For outstanding achievement in transport planning including methodology, policy and implementation.

        Information Management, sponsored by Unipart Logistics.  Entries will be judged with particular regard to the innovative use of new or existing technology and its enhancement of the business process.

        Environmental Improvement, sponsored by DHL Supply Chain.  For outstanding achievement in the reduction of environmental impact including reductions in emissions and waste, and promotion of sustainability.

        Development of People, sponsored by Freight Operator Recognition Scheme (FORS).  For significant achievement in the education, training and development of people relevant to logistics, transport and passenger transport.

        Logistics and Transport Journalist, available for sponsorship.  For the journalist/broadcaster demonstrating an outstanding contribution to the promotion and understanding of logistics and transport.

Other awards to be presented will be the CILT (UK) Certificate and Diploma in Logistics and Transport Students of the Year, sponsored by Michael Page Procurement & Supply Chain, and the Institutes premier award The Sir Robert Lawrence Award, for the individual who has made a sustained contribution to logistics and transport.
