Bristol-based haulier Wrings Transport Ltd has increased the size of its trailer fleet with the acquisition of 20 of Schmitz Cargobulls recently launched S.CS Freepost curtainsiders.

The trailers will be used to service a new three-year contract won by Wrings to deliver cardboard packaging products throughout the UK for DS Smith Packaging Ltd.

The trailers supplied to Wrings have an internal height of 2.85 metres to allow palletised loads to be double stacked while the external height of the trailers is 4.4 metres which enables the trailers to comply with the delivery height restrictions dictated at some of Wrings clients facilities.

The entire fleet has been fitted with Schmitz Cargobulls Load Spread Program (LSP) - a new system specifically designed to reduce the weight on tractor drive axles. The LSP improves the semi-laden trailers ability to negotiate curves and also reduces tyre wear.

Stuart Wring, managing director of Wrings Transport Ltd, first saw a prototype of the S.CS Freepost at Schmitz Cargobulls UK factory at Harelaw, County Durham, in Autumn 2008.

I was impressed by the overall design of the Freepost and the fact that Schmitz Cargobull could build the trailers to the precise external height - 4.4 metres - that we needed to be able to double stack loads and meet the height requirements in place at a number of the sites they deliver to, says Stuart Wring.

The trailersare constructed using Schmitz Cargobulls bolted and galvanized production technique. Essentially, the bolted and galvanized system removes the need for any welding and, therefore, results in consistently high product quality. The galvanizing process all parts of the chassis are galvanized before the build process takes place ensures that there is no corrosion within the joint when two parts of the trailer are brought together. Schmitz Cargobull offers a 10 year anti-corrosion warranty on the Galvanized chassis as standard.

Because the new S.CS Freepost does not have any sideposts, the entire length of the trailer is unobstructed and can be used for loading and unloading - bringing huge advances in flexibility and efficiency. The absence of sideposts means that the S.CS Freepost is easy to approach and makes loading and unloading faster and safer.

Stuart Wring adds: Having seen the way that Schmitz Cargobull builds its trailers during my visit to the companys factory at Harelaw I already had a great deal of confidence in our new fleet but, with the addition of the new LSP system, the extra safety benefits and savings we will make through reduced tyre wear, have convinced me that we have made the right trailer choice.

In addition to the new Freepost trailers, Wrings ordered an additional 10 used models from Schmitz Cargobulls extensive stock of refurbished vehicles.
