Jungheinrich has introduced a number of changes to its Series 4 and 5 electric counterbalanced trucks that are designed to further improve operator comfort and safety.

The trucks are now supplied as standard with a choice of either Jungheinrichs Solo-Pilot or Multi-Pilot control systems integrated into a vertically and horizontally adjustable armrest. The Solo-Pilot system allows the trucks hydraulic functions as well as the direction of travel and the horn to be controlled by finger-operated control levers, while the Multi-Pilot system uses a joystick to control these functions. By incorporating the Solo- and Multi-Pilot control functions into an adjustable armrest, Jungheinrich believes that the 4 and 5 Series now offer the highest levels of operator ergonomics and, therefore, maximum productivity - throughout the course of the most demanding shift.

A number of safety features have also been introduced to the 4 and 5 Series as standard. For example, the trucks all feature Jungheinrichs Curve Control which automatically reduces the trucks drive speed as it enters a corner by monitoring the trucks speed, wheel position and steering angle. At the heart of the Curve Control system is a continuously working sensing unit that monitors the trucks steering angle. Simply stated, the system quickly and effectively reduces the drive speed when an excessive steering angle is sensed.

The underlying principal behind Curve Control was to enhance safety as far as possible without reducing a trucks handling capacity and Jungheinrich claim that it is virtually impossible to tip a truck fitted with Curve Control over - even when it is carrying the maximum capacity load. Standard trucks in the 4 and 5 Series now also come with an automatic parking brake that intelligently monitors the trucks workplace. This means that if the operator leaves the cab without applying the parking brake or if the truck is working on a steep gradient, the parking brake automatically secures the truck using the fixed brake system thereby avoiding truck rollback.

The electric-powered models in the Jungheinrich 4 and 5 Series are four wheel forklifts with a load capacity up to 3,000 kg (EFG 425-430) and 5,000 kg (EFG 535-550). The trucks feature three-phase AC technology which gives both high acceleration and an impressive top speed in operation as well as a notable increase in operating times available from a single battery charge. Jungheinrichs electric-powered 4 and 5 Series trucks offer performance levels comparable with Diesel and LPG models and are suitable for both indoor and outdoor applications.

Craig Johnson, marketing manager of Jungheinrich (UK) Ltd, commented: We feel that this facelift to the electric-powered trucks in the 4 and 5 Series has improved operator ergonomics and safety considerably.
