Growth opportunities in the European freight forwarding sector have prompted P&O Ferrymasters to open the companys third new commercial base of 2008 in Antwerp in Belgium.
The new office opened on 1 October to build on the companys existing client base in Antwerp. The leading European transport and freight management services provider also expects the new team to capitalise on the potential for new business in a growing market. A target of 4,250 Full Trailer Loads (FTL) has been set for 2009, rising to 6,250 FTLs in 2010.
Herman Braam, Director of P&O Ferrymasters Freight Management Division, said: This new base will enable us to provide a really local service for our existing clients in this area but will also allow us to anticipate and respond to the needs of the freight forwarding market much more efficiently and professionally with local experts on the ground.
Antwerp is the perfect location for European distribution. It offers the second largest port in Europe for international shipping freight and also boasts a very large petrochemical industry. But Antwerp also offers an unrivalled flexibility due to the variety of transport options and connections available. It sits at the very heart of a European network of motorways, waterways and railways. Our aim in Antwerp is to replicate the success weve had in the harbour of Rotterdam through our team operating in Europoort.
Herman added: Our own significant resources and expertise are backed up by the global resources of our owners, DP World. DP World operate the container terminals at Delwaide Dock and Deurganck Dock and the general cargo terminal at Churchill Dock in the Port of Antwerp so customers know they will receive real added value and therefore competitive advantage when they choose P&O Ferrymasters.
The office will be managed by Danny Poppe, who will report to Rob Nederlof, General Manager at Europoort. He will be assisted by forwarder, Mrs Lizi Geerts. Both are highly experienced in the Belgian forwarding market.
When this new office opens in October, P&O Ferrymasters will have 29 strategic commercial bases across 11 European countries. The office opening is the third this year, following those of Katowice in Poland (May) and Bucharest in Romania (February)
