Jungheinrich has supplied trucks from its electric-powered Kombi EKX range of very narrow aisle stacker/order pickers to West Bromwich-based haulage and warehousing specialist Sheldon & Clayton Ltd.
The trucks will operate within Sheldon & Claytons new 1.5 million warehouse which is located in the heart of the Black Country. Recently completed, the new unit is the third warehouse that Sheldon & Clayton has built on its 10 acre site and its opening marks the latest phase of a development plan that has seen the company invest some 8million in new storage facilities.
The 50,000 sq ft store is 10 metres high and its narrow aisle configuration provides some 5,000 pallet locations for a broad range of product lines.
Incoming trailers are unloaded at one of four loading bays using traditional counterbalanced machines before pallets are transferred to their allocated location within the racking by the Kombis.
The Jungheinrich Kombis third generation AC motors are highly energy efficient, giving Sheldon & Clayton full utilization of the trucks over two shifts without the need for a battery change, while productivity is further enhanced by the motors high torque which gives high acceleration and greater throughputs.
Although it has its roots in haulage, Sheldon & Clayton has seen significant growth from the storage side of its business in recent years and the companys managing director, David Sheldon, expects the ongoing development of warehousing services to become increasingly important.
