Jungheinrich UK Ltds Systems & Projects Division has been awarded a major contract to supply an integrated mini-load and order consolidation system to Hfele UK - a leading international supplier of furniture fittings and architectural ironmongery.

Valued at over 1.6million, the order is the latest phase in the development of a highly automated operation at Hfeles UK distribution centre in Rugby, Warwickshire. The facility is thought to be one of the largest furniture fittings and architectural ironmongery stores in the UK and Jungheinrich has partnered Hfele on the project for over 10 years.

The latest part of the system comprises two mini-load cranes and a complex conveyor system as well as a material flow controller. Part-picked orders are conveyed to the consolidation area from various picking zones and storage areas around the facility. The order item lines are then collated into customer orders ready for dispatch using a reverse pick-to-light system. The completed orders are then automatically transported to the packing and dispatch area, from where they are shipped.

Steve Richmond, general manager of Jungheinrich UK Ltds Systems & Projects Division, commented: The Systems & Projects Division of Jungheinrich UK is a highly specialised operation offering all aspects of design, feasibility studies and implementation of total materials handling solutions, from manual, through semi-automated and fully automated integrated solutions.

We have partnered Hfele throughout the development of the companys distribution centre at Rugby and this latest contract will enable the company to bring further financial and operational efficiencies to what is already a highly automated operation.
